Bruce Lipton’s The Biology of Belief: Unleashing the Power of Consciousness, Matter, & Miracles
is one of my all time favorite books. It is one of the foundations of my belief that we are running the holodeck. In this book Lipton explores the age old nature vs nurture question. His conclusion: It is both and it is neither.
When the Human Genome Project was completed scientists were startled to find that human beings have significantly less DNA than a fruit fly. Clearly DNA cannot be the only factor in determining who and what we are. Lipton started looking and discovered the “brain” of the cell is actually the membrane. That the nucleus is more of a data storage center. That the functionality and health of a cell is driven by the peptide receptors of the membrane. And what drives the selection and volume of peptide receptors and which DNA data are triggered when? Lipton asserts it is our perception of our environment.
Our DNA gives us the basic template of our physical make up and tendency towards health and diseases. We tend to learn from our family environment how to view the world, i.e how to perceive the world. And so we tend to trigger DNA similar to our family history. The beauty is that when we become aware and make the conscious choice to change our habit of perception of the world we can influence how our cells function.
I’ve been playing with this idea and have found it very effective. On evening while cooking dinner I spilled hot grease on my hand. As I went to sleep that night the blister welled up and there was a strong sensation. Taking into account Lipton’s theory on perception I decided that sensation could be one of two things. Pain as the blister got worse or tingling of cells busily repairing the damage. I decided it was the latter. In the morning I woke up with no pain and only a slight red mark that was gone by noon.
Another time I went over the handle bars of my mountain bike. The doctor diagnosed seriously bruised ribs and the prognosis was 4-6 weeks of the pain. It hurt to take a full breath. I decided I didn’t have time for that, gave my cells instructions that they know what healthy and well is. Do that and then sat quietly in a meditative state to give them a chance to do their work. About 20 minutes later I felt a sharp tug in the area of the bruise. The pain was gone. It hurt do do push ups for a few more days and other than that my ribs were as good as new.
Whether you are managing an injury, a chronic ailment or want to improve and maintain all round health the ideas in this book are worth considering.

Catherine’s The Dynamic Laws of Prosperity is quaintly written and her thoughts are powerful, poignant & timeless.
If you are a fan of The Secret and other books about manifesting what you want in your life this is an absolute must read. She explains about the concept of the vacuum. Which is the essential third leg of the stool that most of the others leave out.
She has a beautiful explanation on the original spiritual purpose of tithing.
If you like affirmations you’ll love this book. She’s got one for just about everything!

Talent isn’t the luck of the gene pool draw. It is due to a 10,000 hour investment of learning and practice. That’s good news! Talent is accessible to anyone!

The Tao of Leadership translation by John Heider

The Tao of Leadership: Lao Tzu’s Tao Te Ching Adapted for a New Age is a great translation of Lao Tzu’s Tao Te Ching for contemporary leaders. I often start my day flipping to a random entry. And when I’m stuck in a situation involving others I ask “What do I need to know?” and flip to a random entry.

Illusions by Richard Bach

I’ve read Richard Bach’s Illusions every year or two since high school. Each time I get something more out of it. I’m looking forward to the day when I actually get it enough to swim through the earth.

Forgive For Good by Dr. Fred Luskin
Lydia Snider : April 10, 2012 1:03 am : Lydia's Bookshelf
Dr. Fred Luskin helped families who suffered losses in the Northern Irish violence find peace and forgiveness. If they could do it you can too. What I love about this book is Luskin dissects how we develop a grievance, how we get stuck in it and offers specific, concrete actions to get out.
In working with my clients I’ve noticed that holding on to bitterness, anger and resentment about a past hurt is one of the biggest and most stubborn obstacles to generating business success and happiness in life in general. How much of your energy is being siphoned off everyday in a futile attempt to re-write the past?
Most people think forgiveness is somehow letting the other person get away with something. It is making the choice to stop taking poison everyday and expecting them to die.
That’s not just some dramatic metaphor. Just a few minutes of thinking about your resentment causes your organs to marinate in stress hormones for 4-6 hours. Forgiveness is not for them. It’s for you. It really isn’t even about them.
For the next week just notice how often and for how long you spend thinking about the person who wronged you. How long you spend having conversations with them in your head, replaying what you might have said, daydreaming about them getting what’s coming to them. Notice how you feel afterwards. Notice what your interactions with other people are like. Notice how little energy you have. How little creativity. Are you really going to let them get away with robbing you of that day after day?
What could you create in your life if you redirected all that time, energy and creativity to your business, to your relationships, to yourself?

Spontaneous Evolution by Bruce Lipton & Steve Bhaerman
Lydia Snider : April 10, 2012 12:32 am : Lydia's Bookshelf
Things are a little crazy these days economically and socially. Is it the beginning of the end? Or is it the opening of a whole new exciting frontier of opportunity? Is it a terrifying time or an exciting time? How did we get into this mess and what is it going to take to get out of it?
In their book Spontaneous Evolution, Dr. Bruce Lipton and Steve Baherman not only examine the sociological, economic & political moments, decisions and pattens that shaped (programmed) our thinking and mindset. They offer a fascinating study of the mindset of the founding fathers. And revel a little known fact that Darwin was not the first person to put forth the theory of evolution. Had he and his buddies not used their clout to delay the other author’s release we may have had a very different cultural paradigm in which Enron would not have been possible.
They also draw fascinating parallels between our biological make up and our global community and explore how our perception of the world determines our experience in it.
The parts where they get really real are hard to read. Take a deep breath and stick with it because they offer a solution. The only way we can solve a problem is to get really real about it.
This book is a must read for everyone who wants to understand how we go into this mess and what we can do about it.
